![]() Gerard Butlers performance is exactly what I would imagine the Phantom to be. He has such a low and powerful BOOMING voice, along with the fact he’s very seductive which I feel like the phantom needs to be in order to even enchant Christine though half of his face is supposed to be disgusting. I know he’s not an opera singer, and that he was basically only casted because he was a heart-throb at the time BUT he’s exactly how I would imagine the phantom to be. However, my all-time favorite phantom is Gerard Butler. ![]() They portray the fact that he literally enchants her and basically draws her singing out of her through an unseen force (or years of grooming?) amazingly and it makes me feel like I can feel it too. His voice is amazing and the sexual tension/chemistry between him and Sierra Burgess is literally amazing and had me speechless. I think he portrayed the obsessive, love-struck, vulnerable side of the phantom really well and it was interesting to watch that performance and gain that perspective into the phantom. Don’t get me wrong, I love Ramin Karimloo’s voice and I think he did an amazing job. I thought her voice was amazing and I actually enjoyed listening to it. ![]() It was melodic, it was high when it needed to be, and she hit those low notes like a pro. I know Emmy Rossum doesn’t technically have an “opera voice”…. It was too melodic with no power whatsoever, basically sounding like how Raul should sound. It was good, sure, but not as I would expect the phantoms voice to be. I also didn’t prefer Michael Crawfords performance as the phantom because I felt his voice was too high and not powerful. Let me say this: I hated the Christine in the Michael Crawford movie because I thought she was a terrible singer and annoying to look at since her acting was terrible. I’ve seen the movie with Michael Crawford, and the broadway with Ramin Karimloo and Sierra Burgess. Okay okay, so I know there’s been a lot of backlash for the movie with Emmy Rossum as Christine and Gerard Butler as the Phantom.
